In Second Life, a virtual world is offered wherein residents can create avatars and navigate around an online environment. Communicating synchronously through avatars reportedly provides the opportunity to have greater social interactivity which is said to be an important factor when developing a community of inquiry within online or hybrid DE courses or learning support. According to the article, there are more than 200 higher education institutions using Second Life, sharing virtual tours of their campuses, instructional activities, and educational experiences. << 收起
